Fresh picked strawberries from The Patch...mmmm

It is a beautiful day here today - sunny, warm and a nice breeze blowing through. We are very fortunate to have a strawberry patch about 7 miles away that allows you to pick your own sweet strawberries, so it seemed like a great opportunity to get the kids out of the house and into fresh air for a bit.

The girls enjoyed sampling the berries along the way.

The three of them each had their own basket to fill with strawberries. And I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at how well the girls did carrying the baskets around without dumping strawberries everywhere and actually selecting strawberries that were ripe.

I did continually remind them as we picked to only choose the ones that were bright red all over.

This is one of the first weeks that The Patch was open and you can tell that there are a lot of strawberries that are still early in the ripening process.

But there were plenty of big, red, juicy strawberries ready for picking!

Avery kept nibbling along the way, so I had to pluck half eaten strawberries out of her basket :)

I did my best to try and get a shot of them together but as you can see, they were all involved with their own baskets of strawberries.

Here is a picture of all of three of them leaving the patch once we had filled all three baskets. We had been asked to pick at the far end of the patch behind Ryan so they got their exercise walking back and forth down the aisles (this picture was taken about half of the way back to the stand.)

And our final product...yum, yum! We will be enjoying these strawberries all weekend. I think we might have fresh strawberry shortcake for dessert Easter Sunday!
